PlasmaGuard Corporation

Building a Smart Mobile App That Powers PlasmaGuard’s Energy-Saving Devices

Client Background

PlasmaGuard®, headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, is pioneering a cleaner, more energy-efficient future through intelligent technology and advanced air purification. With a core mission to reduce energy waste and improve indoor air quality, PlasmaGuard delivers cutting-edge solutions that benefit both people and the planet.

Its flagship products—PlasmaGuard PRO™ and PlasmaGuard Energy Saver™—are engineered to optimize energy use in high-consumption systems such as HVAC units, commercial refrigeration, and cold storage. These smart devices actively monitor and adjust power usage, helping organizations across industries—including retail, transportation, food service, and maritime—lower operating costs and extend equipment lifespan.

At the heart of PlasmaGuard’s innovation is its advanced non-thermal cold plasma technology, which actively eliminates airborne and surface-level contaminants like viruses, bacteria, mold spores, and VOCs. Unlike traditional filters, this plasma-based purification process is chemical-free, maintenance-friendly, and continuously active—providing cleaner, safer environments in real time.

Ultimately, PlasmaGuard empowers users with greater visibility, control, and sustainability, transforming everyday energy and air systems into smarter, healthier, and more eco-conscious solutions.

The Challenge: Connect Smart Devices to a Seamless Mobile Experience

PlasmaGuard needed a custom mobile application that could sync with their smart hardware—allowing both professional installers and end users to monitor, control, and optimize appliance performance from anywhere.

But they faced complex challenges:

  • Communicating with devices inside heavily insulated industrial spaces
  • Connecting through walls several feet thick
  • Creating intuitive user experiences for both technical installers and everyday users

They needed a mobile development partner who could solve these technical issues while delivering a polished, reliable, and user-friendly app. They chose to partner with Logic Solutions.

The Solution: A Custom IoT Mobile App Built with Real-World Challenges in Mind

Logic Solutions kicked off the collaboration with strategic scoping sessions, where we worked closely with PlasmaGuard to understand hardware-to-app communication requirements, solve signal strength and connectivity issues in industrial environments, and define UX personas as well as user flows for multiple app use cases. From there, our UI/UX designers built sleek and intuitive screens in Figma, and our developers at the Logic Development Center (LDC) worked within an agile development process.

Project Overview

Logic Solutions partnered with PlasmaGuard, an energy and air purification company, to develop a custom mobile app that allows users to remotely control smart HVAC and disinfection systems. The cross-platform app enables real-time monitoring, schedule adjustments, and device management, significantly improving user convenience and energy efficiency. Designed in Figma and built with React Native, the solution brings intuitive, centralized control to PlasmaGuard’s growing ecosystem of smart devices.

What We Built:

Logic Solutions supported on 3 key applications. The first was a mobile app that syncs with PlasmaGuard smart devices, similar to a Ring camera or Nest thermostat.

The second was an installer onboarding flow to pair devices, update firmware, and ensure proper network connections.

And the third was a consumer-facing dashboard that allows users to monitor and manage appliance settings remotely. Imagine managing 5 warehouses, each with 1 refrigerator and 2 air conditioners. That’s 15 appliances—controlled remotely from a single app, saving time, travel, and manpower. In fact, whether it’s one unit or a hundred across multiple locations, users can control everything from the convenience of a computer, smartphone or tablet.

The Results: Faster Development, Smarter Products, and Strong Collaboration

The app is currently in testing, and Logic and PlasmaGuard are working hand-in-hand to refine features and enhance functionality. We’ve held weekly sprint reviews to demonstrate updates, gather real-time feedback, and align next steps. To meet PlasmaGuard’s timeline, Logic adjusted our typical two-week SCRUM sprint cycle to one-week sprints, accelerating development and improving the feedback loop dramatically. The result: a faster path to a better app—and a stronger product for PlasmaGuard’s customers.
